i've been lurkin for a while and i've been reading and replying some posts.. i'm catholic and my wife is a j.w.
i studied with j.w.s for a while then stopped for occupational reasons.. our relationship is tense.
but i managed to keep our peace so far.
I'm curious - was she a JW when you married her? If she was, didn't your priest advise against the marriage?
If she was a Catholic, where were the priests when she started her "free home Bible Study"? How long has she been a JW now?
Personally, I'm an atheist, but there are former JWs on here who have returned to the Catholic Church; maybe it would be helpful to you to get a dialogue going with some of them.

so last night my 6 year old tells me that her dad said to her while tucking her in at night "mama is going to die because she caused the divorce, and grandpa wanted mommy to divorce me all the days of his life.".
(my dad left the lie when i was 5, and i left a year ago... and subsequently am almost through with the divorce and the ex is a bitter, ignorant, crazy tempered jw).
so its all our fault, and i am going to die, makes sense.. last night i called up the ex and told him that he was nothing short of a mental pedophile, that you don't tell your daughter her mother is as good as dead, and he needs to knock it off and he is in violation of our anti-disparagement agreement that the courts have insisted on due to the religious and personal strife between us.
You need to protect yourself from that jerkwad. When his invisible friend lets him down, he may decide he needs to help Jah get the job done.
Get full custody of the child and move far, far away.

No, I have absolutely no fear of death. I was dead before I was born.
i have noticed something interesting at work recently.. i don't want to go into too much detail, but our new owners have introduced a customer contract that is so one sided that it is technically unethical although not legally.
i don't like it and won't sell it.. i asked the jw's where i work what they thought of this contract.. to my surprise only 2 are troubled by the nature of this contract (both young and quite wishy washy in the "truth").. the others didn't seem concrened at all and would be happy to tie customers into it, after it all secures the company's finances.. the interesting thing is almost all the "worldly" members of staff feel the same way as as me.. i thought my reservations were due to my jw upbringing - obviously not!.

JWs don't have any special claim on ethics. In general, the majority of JWs are essentially good people, but the cult has also manifested its share of real stinkers too, and at all levels in the organization.
The minute one of these stinkers is exposed, JW apologists start talking about how there are bad people in other religions too, which only underscores the fact that JWs are nothing special.
Recently I've heard the phrase "Jehovah's perfect organization of imperfect men." I suppress the gag reflex and counter with, "how many rotten apples does it take to make a barrel full of "perfect" apples?
because someone, someone who misused their authority as financial information of such as is posted online relative to this trust is confidential communication between a financial planner, accountant, board of trustees and beneficiary of the trust; it's revealed the mutual funds owned by the riley trust have a "consumer staples/consumer goods" component, and one of the stocks in that component is phillip morris.. it's a completely immaterial amount of money and it's not generated by securities that are able to be traded, unless the entire mutual fund is sold off.
this is another fine example of people who have an axe to grind with jehovah's witnesses doing a whole lot of work to produce a "smoking gun" that really is nothing of the kind.. this stems from some financial information that was released related to a lady named henrietta riley.
apparently a wealthy jw that made the watchtower society the beneficiary of the income from her trust.

a young lady i know is touting on facebook about her 12 year old daughter's purity.
the daughter just took a purity promise at her church yesterday and i find that i'm slightly uncomfortable with the idea.
i know the child just started her period because her mother announced it to me and the child announced it to a whole park a couple of weeks ago .
I thought purity vows were just another way of telling the guys that you really, REALLY like oral.
there were a handful of youths in my congregation.
all were vibrant and zealous members.
some conducted bible studies, some were dedicated and quite enthusiastic in the "truth".. .
For one thing, after a decade, youths are no longer as young.
Or did you bury them under your front porch?
